Alligator Arrived with Apples by Crescent Dragonwagon.
There is going to be a wonderful Thanksgiving feast with each animal bringing part of the food. You know what alligator brought but what did goose bring? This book is good for hearing the rhythm and rhyme of our language and useful for practicing the sound of letters. It can also bring about discussions of Thanksgivings past, present, and to come.

Animals A to Z by David McPhail.
Each animal is on a separate page along with other items beginning with the same letter. You and your child can look for and name these other items and the animal itself. The only writing on the page is the letter. A good book for language development, visual perception, and memory skills.

Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.
It's a race! Where are the little letters going? Where are the big letters? Written in a rythmic style, the book introduces capital and lower-case letters and explores what might happen when we do dangerous things. A good introduction to the alphabet and to a discussion of the consequences of our actions.

Tomorrow's Alphabet by George Shannon.
A clever way to introduce children to letters by relating a happening today to an event tomorrow (for example a puppy is tomorrow's dog). An excellent book for discussions and predictions.

The ABC Bunny by Wanda Gag.
This is a black and white book in which we follow a bunny's adventures through the day and through the alphabet. It is good for language development and for initiating conversations about nature.
